The U.S Moon Destruction Plan
DID I READ THAT RIGHT????
A report claims that during the Cold War in the 1950's, the United States, as a show of strength against it's enemies, actually planned to blow up the moon???!!!
Apparently, the plan from 1959, cunningly named 'A Study Of Lunar Research Flights', allegedly devised by US military bosses, proposed the U.S used atomic bomb(s) as a demonstration to it's enemies of what it was capable of, in an attempt to scare off the oppo and let America simply win the space race with no more silly countries in the way...
The plan was to send the bomb up in a missile, (launched from a "Top Secret Location Somewhere on Earth" (Really????) and when the missile got to the moon, the missile was to have been blown up on impact... Job done in one spectacular "take that Commies" display!!!
They obviously had second thoughts about this, NOT because of the consequences of no more Moon, but simply because they were a bit worried in case the missile launch didn't go as planned thus endangering millions of people...
Hmm... doesn't sound like they had a great deal of confidence in themselves really...
"Right then... everyone's agreed yes?.. We are going to show those damned Reds a thing or two as to just how strong we are!!! We ARE going to blow up the Moon, OK!!!!!!"
The rest of the table chants "YESS!!!!! NO MORE MOON, NO MORE MOON!!!"
"Excellent spirit men, we WILL show the world how the Good Ol' US of A WILL win the space race with our superior technology and the fact we have the best brains in the world!!!"
(Small voice from the back).... "Errr... Not wishing to sound like a worry wart, but what if it's a bit windy on launch day??.. I live quite close to the *cough*.. "Top Secret Location Somewhere on Earth..... I really wouldn't want the missile to end up blowing into my garden... I've been pruning you see and it's looking quite lovely at the moment..."
"Oh... I see what you mean.... Errrr.. Maybe, just thinking about it... it might be raining also and that might interfere with the electrics and techy stuff inside the missile... Launching such a big Missile would be quite a shaky business and I wouldn't want the bomb(s) to accidentally go off early... I live quite near the *cough* "Top Secret Location Somewhere on Earth" myself.... I think Hank has a valid point.... I declare that we should keep the Moon fully intact... All agreed??
ALL: "AGREED.... KEEP THE MOON, KEEP THE MOON!"
And thus the Moon was saved thanks to Hank's well pruned garden....... Probably......
And reading up on this subject, not only was the Moon saved. It would have been a pretty disastrous thing to do on SO many levels!
NThe question that the Americans appear to not have asked is :
"What Would Happen if the Moon Was Destroyed?" (Other than making the Russians think "WTF?? They really ARE mental !!!")
There are plenty of blogs and reports etc etc dotted around the internet that will give you a plethora of answers to this question (For any aspiring Bond Baddies, please read up on these BEFORE you build any giant laser to obliterate the Moon!!!)... But the general consensus is that it would be bad news for us AND most other life forms, especially the plants..
The plants would basically have had their lot...
The Moon may well be destroyed, but this of course means, "Blown into billions of tiny pieces" which would of course, thanks to the Earth's gravity, be pulled into the atmosphere and would block out essential sunlight to the planet for decades...
Not enough sunlight... there go the plants... and with that goes oxygen production.... and also, the very stuff that they breath ..ie, what we breath out... Carbon Dioxide, will increase... This is NOT a good thing !!!
What else... Aaah... the weather would change.. dramatically!!
The Earth would spin faster... because the drag of the Moon causes drag on the Earth's spin... No more Moon, no more drag...more spin for Earth.......... WHHEEEEEEEEEEEEE...... FASTER DADDY !!!!... Sorry... This also is not good.... Scientists also believe that without the Moon to stabilise the Earth, Earth's axis would shift, thus causing changes in the seasons and all sorts of problems... Confusion would reign... having to wear coats and hats and take brollies out in July ??? (Hang on.... there is no change here... apologies...)
Also, the tides would be affected big time.. Thus hitting the sea animals hard as a lot of marine life are dependent on the tides and ocean currents for feeding habits, migration, etc. This would more likely mean death for most marine life also......
So I really do think Hank's garden played a major role in saving the world.... if he hadn't pruned, then maybe the Americans might have simply messed up in another way... like launching during the day or something.... Thank God it never happened anyway....
ps... Check out the news report below if you don't believe me... It's in the news... so it MUST be true! ;-)
US planned to 'blow up the moon'!!!!
